The Pros and Cons of The Wedding Cupcake Tree

Cupcake wedding cakes are the new trend, and it can add a conversational touch to an already enjoyable event. Your guests will appreciate the originality and if the bride chooses, the various flavors to choose from. The cupcake wedding cake is used, instead of a regular wedding cake. Sometimes a traditional cake is used for photos while the cupcakes are served to the guests. However in a true cupcake wedding cake there's usually at least one cake tier (or a separate cake) that is used for the cutting of the cake.

Here are some benefits of having a cupcake wedding cake.

  • A cupcake wedding cake is usually a cheaper option than a traditional cake.
  • Cupcake wedding cakes are easier to handle and not as messy.
  • Transporting cupcakes is a lot easier than carrying a large cake with multiple layers.
  • Cupcake wedding cakes can be assembled at the reception hall rather than at the bakery.
  • Since there are so many little cakes, you can actually have a lot of different flavors!
  • Because they're individually wrapped, the reception staff doesn't have to deal with plating up slices for each guest.
  • The cupcakes don't even have to be served. Each guest can pick a cupcake from the tower or "cupcake bar".
  • Cupcakes are also easier to carry home for the guest who would love a piece of cake, but would rather not eat it at the reception.
  • They could also be boxed up and used as favors.

And, you can use these adorable cupcakes holders I found ... beautiful aren't they?

Some of us need a little help in the baking department. Thankfully, help is out there. My first suggestion... the Magnolia Recipes cookbook -- theyare the ones who put cupcakes on the fast track map. More from Magnolia Torey's second book, adds to her already impressive recipe roster 75 formulas that range from Pear Streusel Breakfast Buns, and Pumpkin Walnut Cookies with Brown Butter Frosting, to Chocolate Pecan Pudding Pie, and Old-Fashioned Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Included also are recipes for signature specialties like Magnolia's Chocolate Cupcakes and famous banana pudding, plus a section on frostings and sauces. Saving Money on Wedding Centerpieces

Saving Money on Wedding Centerpieces

In the past, expensive floral centerpieces were common at most wedding receptions. Today, more brides are finding inexpensive, creative ways to "customize" their wedding receptions without spending a lot of money.

Here are some great centerpiece suggestions. The prices quoted are from Michael's Arts and Crafts, unless otherwise noted.

  • Candles - Arranging candles of different heights on a small mirror in the center of the table can be quite dramatic. The prices range from $1.00 to $3.00 for 3x3, 3x6, and 3x9 inch candles. Candles can also be placed inside 4" bubble/ivy/diamond ivy cut/swirl ivy glass bowls at $1.00 each. Floating candles are very romantic. A 10" bowl will cost you $7.99 and the candles range from .99 to $1.79.
  • Flower pots - A crafty friend or bridesmaid can purchase 3" clay pots at .69 each, and paint them an elegant white or the colors of the wedding. The bride and groom's name and wedding date can also be added. Plant ivy in the pots, and you have an affordable centerpiece and a memorable wedding favor.
  • Picture frames - You can place a grouping of your favorite pictures of the bride and groom on the table as centerpieces. Or, you can choose to have parents, family, and friends put framed pictures of their weddings on the table.
  • Paper and pen - Put pens and decorated pieces of paper that say, "My Favorite Part of Your Wedding Was…" near each setting. Collect the papers, and assemble them in a book you can read on your honeymoon, or read out loud at the reception.
  • Vase and silk flowers - Arrange inexpensive silk flowers that match your wedding colors inside elegant cube shaped vases (3x4x6 as low as $2.49). For a mere 99 cents more, place a lace doily under each vase. For more vase ideas, check http://www.ikea.com/. They start as low as $1.99.
  • Themes - If the bride and groom are big NASCAR fans, love country music, or ride Harleys, use this opportunity to share this passion with family and friends. Use some of your less expensive collectible items to decorate the table. If the bride and groom belong to the military, or the groom is married in uniform, be sure to use 4 x 6" mini flags in addition to your other decorations.

These affordable wedding centerpieces will be great conversation starters. Browse around your local arts and crafts store, and you will find many more ideas.

Choosing Your Wedding Colors

Main Tip: Try to limit your main colors to two or three to show consistency with your colors throughout the wedding . The colors you choose for your wedding day should and will set the style and tone for your entire wedding. You can use color in your bridesmaids' dresses, decorations, cake, favors, flowers, accessories, table linens and even the invitations! You should use the colors you want, but make sure you consider the following:

  • What is the season. Traditionally, pale and pastels work well for spring and summer; whereas, darker colors are more traditional for fall and winter seasons.
  • Where will the wedding and reception take place. Choose colors that will compelemtn the setting. Think about the color of the room (walls, carpet, decor, etc.)
  • What will be the mood. If you want drama; use vibrant colors. Do you want a romantic atmosphere? Then soft colors will be your best bet.

There is a science that proves that colors effect our moods and emotions. The following two tools can help you choose a coordinated color scheme.

• The Color Wheel - A color wheel helps you choose coordinating colors. It is made out of three primary colors: red, blue and yellow, plus a blend of in-between colors. Here are three popular strategies to choosing your colors:

- "Complementary" colors means choosing colors that are opposite each other on the wheel, such as red and green.

- "Analogous" means the colors lie next to each other on the wheel, such as red, red-orange, and orange.

- "Monochromatic" means variations of the same tone, such as bright red, dark red, etc.

  • Any of these strategies are assured to give you a well coordinated color scheme. Read more about color theory to gain a better understanding.
  • Color Palette Generator Tool - This is a handy little tool that allows you to upload your favorite photo and generate an instant color palette. You can then print and select your favorite colors from the chart.

The only color you should have to worry about on your wedding day is the rosy blush of happiness you will be wearing; and that's a color that everyone will love and remember.

Tips to Keep Within the Wedding Budget

  1. It´s not a good idea to go over your budget or go into debt in order to pay off your wedding. Beginning a married life together is a difficult transition as it is, and having a debt because of your wedding only adds to the financial problems.
  2. Choose a weeknight to get married at your favorite wedding chapel, church or even destination. Rates are much lower for weekday weddings (and this includes not only the locatin, but also the vendors rates) and you get to enjoy the weekend for your honeymoon.
  3. In general the initially quoted price for wedding services will be high. Keep this in mind and don´t be afraid to dicker. Tell them outright that you don´t intend to spend that much and you will be surprised at the accomodations they can make rather than lose a sale.
  4. To stick tight to your budget, before you meet with a vendor, get a rough idea of their price rangeand don´t meet with that vendor if you know that they´re out of your price range. When you do meet with the vendor, tell them your budget up front so they can help you pick from options that will stay within your budget.
  5. The rate of couples getting married goes *way* down in the winter. With the exception of December (all those holiday weddings!), November thru March aren´t big wedding months---you´ll spend less money if you get married during the off-season.
  6. If you *really* need to save money and aren´t afraid of a little sneakiness, you can do many things (flowers, banquet halls, etc.) and without mentioning the word ´wedding´ can save a bundle. Prices go way up when flowers are ´wedding flowers´ as opposed to ´party flowers´ or ´reunion flowers.´

Sand Blending Ceremony

The Unity Sand Ceremony, a celebration that is usually two to three minutes in length, is a meaningful joining of two lives. It represents the timeless ritual of marriage. The couple ceremoniously pours various colors of sand from a container, such as a seashell, a decorative pitcher (or any other nice container), into one special container symbolizing their coming together as one.

This unique celebration was recently brought into the public eye with the marriage of Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter of the TV series, "The Bachelorette." Rather than the time-honored ritual of the Unity Candle Ceremony, the Sutter's chose an alternative: the Unity Sand Ceremony.

Their decision sparked a craze in weddings across the country.

The ceremony has controversial origins. Some believe it began with the Native Americans, and some insist the Hawaiians created the legend. Whatever its origin, the Unity Sand Ceremony is fast becoming a nationwide trend in wedding ceremonies.

The flowing sand and blending of the colors symbolize the combining of two lives into one. Some couples prefer to leave a small amount of sand in their respective container — to show that even though they now function as one, they remain individuals.

A staple in marriages everywhere, The Unity Candle Ceremony has long been a tradition for marriages both elaborate and simple. Usually, there's a single candle that both bride and groom light from a flame of their own single candle. Parents or other members of the wedding party often join in the candle lighting ceremony.
